The gray tabby kittypet stood on the fence that marked the borders of her home's front yard, staring off into the narrow, rocky road that her twolegs drove those queer, monster-like things on. At the other side, she could see those tiny, pointy-eared dogs barking and rough-housing, obviously having not noticed her. Those were the annoying ones. They were so tiny, she could take one of them on all by herself. Of course, she'd have the help of her twoleg's other house cats, Flour and Shadow. Well, maybe not Flour. Flour had once had a brother- Jumper- but Jumper had died at kithood, about a moon before Ruby had been brought to the home. Shadow had been here for well over ten years, and the yellow-eyed, black-furred tom was as fit as ever. When Ruby had first come to live there, Flour had been her best friend. They had been like brother and sister. Now, Flour was just annoying. It was Shadow who was like her brother, now.
It was the rotweilers that Ruby couldn't stand. There were at least five of them scattered around the few other twoleg nests, and they were huge, sharp-toothed, and aggressive. One of them had almost killed her twoleg's beagle, a fat little dog named Betty. Betty was better than most dogs- she was quiet and hardly ever barked, though the way she stole Ruby's food was both ridiculous and annoying. Luckily, with the cone on, Betty couldn't reach her food bowl.
Ruby turned to look into the depths of the forest. She had wandered near the edge of the gate- about three acres from the backyard- but never dared to go further. The stories she heard from the local cats, Patches, Snowy, and their numerous kittens- had been enough to keep her closer to the house. Though she felt a certain longing all the same.
She knew that Shadow was resting in the twoleg monster's huge nest. As he got older, he went out less and less. The white hairs could be seen sprinkled on his pelt. And the nastiness that he had had when he was younger had faded away to calm acceptance and friendlyness. Ruby was now the only active cat on the whole property- with Flour's visit to the vet, he was fat and lazy.
With a small leap, Ruby landed at the border of the woods and looked curiously at the looming branches. She knew that groups wild cats lived there, and she was curious. She had been doing this a lot lately, but with saddening results- no sign of any other cat, except for Shadow, once, who had leapt playfully at her out of the bushes.
((LOLZ. XD I'm using my own cats for this. I do have a cat named Ruby, a cat named Flour, and a cat named Shadow. I also have a beagle named Betty, and there are tons of rottweilers around our house. Basically, everything said here is true.
Also, just so there's no confusion, I'm also Emberstep and Ghost. XD))
